International relations
The Hungarian Economic Association maintains particularly active relationships with foreign partner organisations operating in the Carpathian Basin, such as the Association of Hungarian Economists in Romania, Slovakia and Vojvodina and their respective youth organisations.
We regularly attend each other’s itinerant sessions and conferences and organise joint conferences under various projects, primarily in issues concerning the Carpathian Basin Economic Region.
In 2017, the Hungarian Economic Association started a new cooperation with the V4 economic associations: the Czech Economic Society, the Polish Economic Society and the Slovak Economic Association.
In addition, the HEA is member of the International Economic Association (IEA); for example, in 1974 the HEA had the opportunity to organise the IEA World Congress in Budapest.

Association of Hungarian Economists in Slovakia
The Association of Hungarian Economists in Slovakia was established in the framework a conference called ‘Carpathian Basin Economic Area – Resources of Regional Development’ held in Samorin (Somorja) on 27 May 2010.
The initiative was welcomed by professionals holding speeches on cross-border economic cooperation and the management of similar associations operating in Hungary, Transylvania and Vojvodina. The conference, simultaneously constituting the Association’s inaugural session, expressed its commitment to the established goals via the joining declaration of 23 economists, and since then a further fifty professionals of the Upper Hungary region have declared interest in the work of the Association. With the Articles of Association adopted, the members appointed Erzsébet Pogány, head of the Alliance for Common Goals to execute incorporation.
As a result of the above, the Ministry of Interior of the Republic of Slovakia incorporated the Association on 30 June 2010, with the official name ‘Združenie maďarských ekonómov na Slovensku’ and headquarters established in Dunajska Streda (Dunaszerdahely). The Association aims to support scientific activity, in addition to organising professional events and promoting the development of professionals and economics students.
