In the national final of the international competition for secondary school students, 25 students from 14 schools of 8 towns competed in economics.<\/p>\n<p>The Economics Olympiad was first organised in the Czech Republic in 2016. Since 2019, Hungary has been organizing the national competition and delegating the best students from the national final to the international final. The prestige of the competition is reflected in the fact that the number of students participating in the international competition has risen from 4,000 in 2017 to almost 80,000 in 2023. Since its inception, 350,000 students from 21 countries on four continents have competed in economics.<\/p>\n<p>Almost 300 students from 50 secondary schools of 30 municipalities, including Zenta in Vojvodina and \u00c9rsek\u00fajv\u00e1r in the Highlands, applied for this year&#8217;s competition. Among them, 25 students from 14 schools competed in Wednesday&#8217;s final in Budapest. The national finals consisted of two rounds: a written test in the morning, and az oral exam for the 10 best performing students in the afternoon. Gyula Pleschinger, President of the Hungarian Economic Association and member of the Monetary Council, and R\u00e9ka Vas, Vice-Rector of Corvinus University of Budapest, welcomed the finalists and their accompanying teachers before the written round. The jury was chaired by Krist\u00f3f Lehmann, Head of the MNB Institute, Director of the Magyar Nemzeti Bank; P\u00e9ter Vida, Professor at the Corvinus University of Budapest and CY Cergy Paris Universit\u00e9; \u00c9va Pal\u00f3cz, CEO of Kopint-T\u00e1rki Zrt. and Vice President of the Hungarian Economic Association; and \u00c1kos Dombi, Associate Professor at E\u00f6tv\u00f6s Lor\u00e1nd University.<\/p>\n<p>The first three winners of the Economics Olympiad: 1. \u00c1goston Dud\u00e1s (ELTE Trefort \u00c1goston Gymnasium, Budapest); 2. Gergely Mad\u00e1r (N\u00e9meth L\u00e1szl\u00f3 Gymnasium, Budapest); 3. Szabolcs Andr\u00e1si (Kada Elek Technikum SZC, Kecskem\u00e9t).
