The Economic Policy and Economic Theory Section of the Hungarian Economic Association (HEA) will organize a roundtable discussion on inflation on Wednesday, 6 May 2026, from 3:00 p.m. at the HEA Community Space (ELTE Faculty of Law, Building B, 1053 Budapest, Kecskem\u00e9ti \u00fat 10\u201312, 4th floor, Room 403) and on the HEA YouTube channel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Hungary\u2019s inflation rate, which had previously reached exceptionally high levels even by international standards, has declined significantly in recent times. However, administrative measures that are alien to market mechanisms continue to cause substantial distortions, making their phase-out unavoidable. At the same time, given the high degree of geopolitical and geoeconomic uncertainty in the external environment, as well as the domestic economy\u2019s ongoing equilibrium problems and vulnerabilities, it remains of key importance to monitor and conduct deeper analysis of domestic inflationary processes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This is the purpose of the panel discussion on 6 May. Participants will include \u00c9va Pal\u00f3cz, CEO of Kopint-T\u00e1rki Plc. and Vice President of the HEA; Zsolt Becsey Jr., Chief Economist of UniCredit Bank Hungary Plc.; Gy\u0151z\u0151 Eppich, Deputy Director of the OTP Analysis Center; and P\u00e9ter Quittner, Head of the Inflation Analysis Department of the National Bank of Hungary. The discussion will be moderated by Zolt\u00e1n Farkas, editor of HVG. Participants will be welcomed by P\u00e9ter Halmai, Member of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, university professor, and Chairman of the HEA Economic Policy and Economic Theory Section, who will also provide an overview of the section\u2019s activities over the past three years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In connection with the event, the HEA Economic Policy and Economic Theory Section will also hold its upcoming election of officers. A link to the electronic ballot will be sent by email one week before the event to section members entitled to vote, that is, members with no outstanding membership fee arrears.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
