The future, challenges, and opportunities of European integration<\/em><\/strong> will be examined from a Hungarian and Central and Eastern European perspective in an upcoming volume of studies edited by P\u00e9ter Halmai, member of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, professor at BME and NKE, and president of the Economic Policy and Economic Theory Section of the HEA, together with Istv\u00e1n P. Sz\u00e9kely, member of the HEA, retired director of the European Commission and honorary university professor. On the occasion of the publication of the volume, the Section IX of Economics and Law of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, jointly with the HEA\u2019s Economic Policy and Economic Theory Section and European Union Section, is organizing a professional conference on Wednesday, June 3, 2026, from 3:00 p.m.<\/strong> in Budapest at Europe Point (1024 Budapest, L\u00f6v\u0151h\u00e1z u. 35.). The event will be streamed live on the HEA\u2019s YouTube channel at this link<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As part of the conference, participants will be able to attend two exciting panel discussions. The title of the first discussion is The Future of European Integration: Challenges and Opportunities<\/em>. The moderator will be D\u00f3ra Gy\u0151rffy, professor at Corvinus University of Budapest and board member of the HEA\u2019s Economic Policy and Economic Theory Section. The panelists will include P\u00e9ter Halmai; Mikl\u00f3s Hajdu, researcher at Corruption Research Center Budapest; K\u00e1lm\u00e1n Mizsei, former Assistant Secretary-General of the United Nations; Istv\u00e1n P. Sz\u00e9kely, retired director of the European Commission and honorary university professor; and J\u00e1nos Istv\u00e1n T\u00f3th, director of Corruption Research Center Budapest and lecturer at SGH Warsaw School of Economics.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The second panel discussion will focus on The Future of European Integration from a Central European Perspective<\/em>. It will be moderated by G\u00e1bor Zupk\u00f3, Head of the Representation of the European Commission in Hungary. The participants will include L\u00e1szl\u00f3 Andor, former EU Commissioner, Secretary General of the Foundation for European Progressive Studies, and vice president of the HEA; Istv\u00e1n Benczes, professor at Corvinus University of Budapest; Zolt\u00e1n Martinusz, director at the Council of the European Union; and Enik\u0151 Gy\u0151ri, Member of the European Parliament.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
