About 150-200 university and Ph.D. students of economics from Hungary and areas inhabited by ethnic Hungarians abroad are expected to attend the event.\u00a0 The registration deadline is 20 October;\u00a0click here for the online registration interface<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n

The main theme of this year\u2019s conference will be competitiveness in general, and that of the Carpathian Basin region in particular. The event will be kicked off at 2 p.m. on Friday, 27 October with a plenary meeting at the J\u00e1nos Neumann University. The participants will be welcomed by \u00c9va Heged\u00fcs, HEA secretary general and chairman of the board and CEO of Granit Bank, as well as Zita Finta, chancellor of the J\u00e1nos Neumann University and chairman of the B\u00e1cs-Kiskun County Unit of HEA. These opening addresses will be followed by presentations by the following notable speakers: L\u00e1szl\u00f3 Domokos, president of the State Audit Office, Kecskem\u00e9t mayor Klaudia Szemerey Pataki, D\u00e1niel Palotai, chief economist of the National Bank of Hungary and vice president of HEA, as well as Rich\u00e1rd V\u00e9gh, chairman and CEO of the Budapest Stock Exchange, and chairman of the Responsible Corporate Governance Unit of HEA.<\/p>\n

This year\u2019s meeting of young economists will continue in the morning of Saturday, 28 October with four sections: <\/strong>export competitiveness; fintech industry and the banking system; industrial digitalisation and robotization; and competitiveness of the region\u2019s stock markets. The venue will be the House of Scientists in Kecskem\u00e9t, with presentations by further prestigious speakers, such as the following. In the fintech section, Zolt\u00e1n Ill\u00e9s, chairman and CEO of the Hungarian Post; Zsolt Selmeczi-Kov\u00e1cs, CEO of Giro Zrt; Lajos Bartha, director of the National Bank in charge of financial infrastructure; Endre Sz\u0151cs, founder of Negotio; Gergely Szab\u00f3, economic research expert at the National Bank\u2019s Research Directorate; and J\u00e1nos Pereczes, head of MKB Fintech Lab. Speakers in the section on the competitiveness of regional stock exchanges: Istv\u00e1n M\u00e1t\u00e9-T\u00f3th, Budapest Stock Exchange deputy CEO for business; D\u00e1niel K\u00f6rm\u00f6czi, Budapest Stock Exchange deputy CEO for international relations; as well as economist and journalist Lor\u00e1nd Istv\u00e1n\u00a0Kr\u00e1lik, member of the Romanian National Securities Board.<\/p>\n

The\u00a0section dedicated to industrial digitalisation and robotics will feature, among others, Ferenc Pongr\u00e1cz, IBM\u2019s business development director in South and East Europe, chairman of HEA\u2019s IT Unit. Finally, the presenters in the section on export competitiveness will include Ervin Sz\u00e9l, foreign trade attach\u00e9 of the Embassy of Hungary in Skopje, member of the Presidium of HAE.<\/p>\n

Speakers in Saturday\u2019s plenary section: \u00c1gnes Hornung, state secretary of the Ministry of National Economy in charge of finances; Piroska Ailer, rector of the J\u00e1nos Neumann University; and university lecturer Erzs\u00e9bet\u00a0 Czak\u00f3, head of the Competitiveness Research Centre of the Corvinus University of Budapest. The conference will be concluded with a closing speech by Gyula Pleschinger, President of the Hungarian Economic Association and member of the Monetary Council.<\/p>\n

Those who pay the HUF 10,000 gross registration fee may listen to all presentations and get accommodation for two nights, dinner on Friday and Saturday, lunch on Saturday, as well as breakfast on Saturday and Sunday. The registration fee is HUF 5,000 without accommodation. The amount must be transferred onto the bank account of the Hungarian Economic Association.
