The vice-president of the EU Section is Director <\/strong>G\u00e1bor Iv\u00e1n<\/strong>, Director of the General Policy Directorate, Council of the European Union.\u00a0\u00a0 <\/strong><\/p>\n

The inaugural meeting held at the Eiffel Palace Office, the HEA\u2019s community centre was attended, among others, by founding members L\u00e1szl\u00f3 Andor<\/strong>, former commissioner of the EU, head of department at Corvinus University of Budapest; P\u00e9ter Bal\u00e1zs<\/strong>, former minister of foreign affairs, first Hungarian member of the European Commission, Vice President of the HEA; Zsolt Becsey<\/strong>, former MEP and EU diplomat; L\u00e1szl\u00f3<\/strong> Vajda<\/strong>, former head of EU Coordination Department, Ministry of Agriculture; Tam\u00e1s Halm<\/strong>, chief editor of K\u00f6zgazdas\u00e1gi Szemle, member of the HEA Board, and \u00c1rp\u00e1d Kov\u00e1cs<\/strong>, chairman of the Fiscal Council of Hungary and lifetime honorary president of HEA. Although unable to attend, intention to join the Section was notified in writing, among others, by L\u00e1szl\u00f3 Baranyay<\/strong>, member of Board, European Investment Bank, retired honorary vice president of EIB; G\u00e1bor Iv\u00e1n<\/strong>, head of General Policy Directorate, Council of the European Union; \u00c9va Kriszt S\u00e1ndorn\u00e9<\/strong>, rector emerita of Budapest Business School, and Tibor Pal\u00e1nkai<\/strong>, economist, member of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, recipient of Sz\u00e9chenyi-Award.<\/p>\n

The participants of the inaugural meeting elected Szabolcs Fazakas to be president of the Section by a unanimous vote. G\u00e1bor Iv\u00e1n, head of the General Policy Directorate, Council of the European Union was elected to fulfil the vice-president’s duties, also by unanimous vote.<\/p>\n

At the inaugural meeting Szabolcs Fazakas, president of the newly established section said that they wished to cooperate, rather than to compete, with other existing sections of the HEA also engaged in special EU affairs, therefore the Development Policy Section of the HEA would naturally remain the flag bearer of EU development policy issues. The new section intends to provide professional background to discussions on current European integration processes through various events, section meetings and roundtable sessions.<\/p>\n

Pursuant to the HEA\u2019s Articles of Association the foundation of the section is subject to approval of the HEA\u2019s Board.
