Does This Economy Kill? The Family in God’s Plan and the Demographic Paradox. This is the title of the professional roundtable discussion organized by the Demographic Section of the Hungarian Economic Association (HEA) on Thursday, November 27, 2025, from 9:30 a.m., to be held on Webex and the HEA YouTube channel.
The participants of the discussion — János Székely, theologian, Bishop of the Diocese of Szombathely, President of the Hungarian Catholic Bishops’ Conference; Katalin Botos, economist, university professor, former minister; and József Benda, socialization researcher and President of the HEA’s Demographic Section — will address questions such as: What social and economic structures hinder sustainable development and human flourishing? Why is the population of the developed world declining? And why do childrearing and economic success appear to contradict each other?
The discussion will be moderated by Zsuzsa Sisakné Fekete, economist, statistician, and Secretary of the HEA’s Demographic Section.
