This year’s 64th Itinerant Congress of Economists will open with keynote presentations by Mihály Varga, Governor of the Magyar Nemzeti Bank, the central bank of Hungary, and András Kármán, Minister of Finance. The event will be hosted by the city of Eger on 10–11 September 2026.
The conference is the largest annual gathering of the Hungarian economics profession. The Hungarian Economic Association (HEA), the organizer of the event, expects to welcome at least 700 economists from all regions of Hungary as well as from beyond the country’s borders. Across two plenary sessions and 16 parallel section sessions, approximately one hundred speakers are expected to share their insights with participants.
This year’s Itinerant Congress of Economists will focus on the most important challenges facing the Hungarian economy and economic policymaking. Several sessions will address the risks and opportunities associated with the use of artificial intelligence. Other topics on the agenda will include the state of public finances and the national budget, European Union funding, innovation and competitiveness, and the increasingly turbulent global political and economic environment. As in previous years, the conference will also feature two flagship events: the roundtable discussion of banking leaders and the panel of macroeconomic analysts.
The professional programme of the conference will be continuously updated and expanded on the website over the coming weeks. Further information on the accompanying social and cultural programmes is available via the relevant links on the website. Information on accommodation options can also be found online. Registration is expected to open during the last week of June.
Participation fees for the Congress have remained unchanged for the past three years. In addition, HEA members who have paid their annual membership dues are eligible for a registration discount that exceeds the amount of the annual membership fee itself. Those who have not yet renewed their membership are therefore strongly encouraged to pay this year’s dues and take advantage of this benefit.
