Two Centuries of Hungarian Economic Thought – Paths in Economic Theory and Economic Policy, Distinguished Predecessors, Achievements and Losses. Under this title, the Department of Economic Policy and Economic Theory of the Hungarian Economic Association, in cooperation with the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, is organizing a professional conference as part of the MTA200 event series. The conference will be hosted by the Section IX of Economics and Law of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences on Wednesday, 4 February 2026, starting at 10:00 a.m., in the Ceremonial Hall of the MTA Headquarters (1051 Budapest, Széchenyi István tér 9).
Among the speakers at the conference will be Péter Halmai, Member of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences and President of the Department of Economic Policy and Economic Theory of the Hungarian Economic Association; László Csaba, Member of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences; and Katalin Botos, Professor at the University of Szeged and Pázmány Péter Catholic University. The presentations will examine the work of several economists who have played a decisive role in the 132-year history of the Hungarian Economic Association, including Gyula Kautz, Farkas Heller, Ákos Navratil, and István Varga.
