See You in Eger in One Month!

Exactly one month from now, on September 10, 2026, the 64th Itinerant Congress of Economists will kick off in Eger with keynote addresses by Mihály Varga, Governor of the central bank, and András Kármán, Minister of Finance. The Hungarian Economic Association (HEA), the organiser of Hungary’s largest annual conference for economists, expects around 700 economists from all parts of the country and from beyond Hungary’s borders.

The focus of this year’s Itinerant Congress of Economists will be on the most important challenges facing the Hungarian economy and economic policymaking. The programme will feature two plenary sessions and 16 on-site section sessions, several of which will address the risks and opportunities associated with the use of artificial intelligence. Particular attention will be paid to the state of public finances and the budget, EU funds, the labour market, innovation and competitiveness, the banking system, as well as the turbulent geopolitical and global economic environment. In addition, two panels during the two-day conference will focus on the introduction of the euro in Hungary.

In addition to the Minister of Finance and the Governor of the central bank, speakers at the conference will include two state secretaries and three deputy state secretaries of the government, the President of the Fiscal Council, the CEO of the Government Debt Management Agency, and two Deputy Governors of the Magyar Nemzeti Bank. Renowned economic researchers, as well as leading executives and CEOs of major corporations and banks, will also share their insights with the audience. The plenary sessions and selected key sessions of the conference are expected to be available to watch live this year as well on the Hungarian Economic Association’s YouTube channel.

The continuously updated and expanding programme of the 64th Itinerant Congress of Economists is available on the conference website at https://kozgazdasz-vandorgyules.blog.hu, where you can also find practical information about registration and accommodation.
