The Itinerant Congresses of Economists are celebrations of Hungary’s economics profession – they offer the best opportunity for the association to express its appreciation, through awards, to all those who have made significant contributions to the association or to the Hungarian economy as a whole. At the opening plenary session of the conference, four recipients received HEA awards.
The Presidium of the Hungarian Economic Association presented its highest distinction, the Economist Lifetime Achievement Award, to Zoltán Farkas, editor of HVG, in recognition of his decades-long, exemplary career in economic journalism and editing, as well as his outstanding professional work helping to foster a deeper understanding of developments in the Hungarian economy and economic policy.
The Presidium of the HEA presented the Gyula Kautz Award, named after the association’s second president, to Etelka Baráth, former Minister for European Union Affairs and former member of the European Economic and Social Committee, in recognition of her decades of professional activity, as well as her work as former president of the HEA’s Development Policy Section and as a member of the national presidium.
The Presidium of the HEA also presented the Gyula Kautz Award to András Nábrádi, university professor at the Faculty of Economics and Business of the University of Debrecen and president of the HEA’s Hajdú-Bihar County Organization, in recognition of his decades-long scientific and teaching career, as well as his work as president of the HEA’s county organization.
Finally, the Presidium of the Hungarian Economic Association presented the Economist Grand Prize to Tibor Lakatos, managing director and owner of VELA Ltd. in Nyíregyháza and former vice-president of the HEA’s Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg County Organization, in recognition of his exemplary professional activities on behalf of the association over several decades.
The awards were presented to the recipients by Éva Hegedüs, President of the Hungarian Economic Association, and Gábor Miklós Nagy, Secretary-General of the HEA.
