Gold: Barbarous Relic or Ultimate Safe Haven?

The September 2026 issue of the Financial and Economic Review features a study by Harold James and Marzenna James, faculty members at Princeton University, entitled The Mermaid with the Sword: Poland’s Search for Monetary Stability and Military Security through Gold. At the beginning of the event, Barnabás Virág, Chief Advisor to the Governor of the Magyar Nemzeti Bank (MNB), Chairman of the Editorial Board of the Financial and Economic Review, and member of the Executive Board of the HEA’s Competitiveness Section, will welcome participants and introduce the topic by summarising the study’s key findings.

The subsequent panel discussion will feature Viktor Zsiday, investment expert and portfolio manager; Péter Kolozsi, Professional Director at GKI Economic Research Co. and Associate Professor at the Ludovika University of Public Service (NUPS), as well as President of the HEA’s Finance Section; Kristóf Juhász, Managing Director of Conclude Befektetési Zrt.; and Balázs Mucsi, Head of Department at the MNB. The discussion will be moderated by Károly Beke, analyst at Portfolio.hu.
