It was 30 years ago, on 1 February 1994, that the European Agreement between Hungary and the European Union entered into force, launching the process of Hungary’s integration into the EU. To mark the anniversary, the Faculty of Law and Political Sciences of the Károli Gáspár Reformed University in cooperation with the European Union Section of the Hungarian Economic Association (HEA) will organise a panel discussion on Wednesday, 31 January 2024, from 14:00 at the Károlyi-Csekonics Palace Ballroom (1088 Budapest, Múzeum utca 17.).
Participants of the discussion: Endre Juhász, former State Secretary of the Ministry of International Economic Relations; former Minister for European Integration Affairs; Richárd Hörcsik, Member of Parliament, founding Chairman of the Committee on European Affairs of the Hungarian Parliament, former Hungarian Co-Chairman of the Joint Committee of the European and the Hungarian Parliament; István Szent-Iványi, former Member of Parliament, former Vice-Chairman of the Committee on Foreign Affairs, former State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs; and Tibor Palánkai, academic, who, as a university professor, carried out a number of background analyses to provide the appropriate professional background for integration. The conference is organised and will be moderated by Zsolt Becsey, former MEP and Vice President of the European Union Section of the HEA, who was the diplomat in charge of general and political affairs at the Hungarian EU mission at the time of the entry into force of the Europe Agreement.
