Inflation and Perception: Drivers of Hungarian Households’ Expectations – under this title, a joint study by Tímea Várnai, economic advisor at the Magyar Nemzeti Bank (MNB), and Áron Szakály, analyst at the MNB, was published in the December 2025 issue of Hitelintézeti Szemle. In connection with this article, the Hungarian Economic Association (HEA) and Hitelintézeti Szemle are organizing a panel discussion on Wednesday, 21 January 2026, starting at 2:00 p.m., at the MNB Teátrum Conference Center (1054 Budapest, Szabadság tér 8–9.) and on the HEA YouTube channel.
At the beginning of the event, participants will be welcomed by Barnabás Virág, chief advisor to the Governor of the MNB, Chair of the Editorial Board of Hitelintézeti Szemle, and member of the Board of the HEA Competitiveness Section. This will be followed by a brief presentation by the authors outlining the main conclusions of their paper. The participants in the panel discussion following the introductory presentation will be: Tímea Várnai, economic advisor at the MNB; Zoltán Pogátsa, Associate Professor at the University of Sopron; and István Madár, lead analyst at Portfolio.hu and member of the HEA Board. The panel discussion will be moderated by Balázs Vonnák, economic advisor at the MNB.
