Hungarians in Romania – this is the title of the upcoming online roundtable discussion organized by the Demographic Section of the Hungarian Economic Association, featuring experts from Timișoara, Cluj-Napoca, Bucharest, and Hungary. The event will take place on Thursday, October 9, 2025, at 3:00 PM (CET) via Webex and on the MKT YouTube channel.
Participants in the discussion – Barna Bodó, Associate Professor at the Sapientia Hungarian University of Transylvania; András László Kósa, Director of the Liszt Institute in Bucharest; György Csepeli, Professor Emeritus at ELTE University; Béla Borsi-Kálmán, University Professor and Doctor of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences (MTA); and Zoltán Rostás, Professor at the University of Bucharest – will explore how the Hungarian minority in Romania, which numbered 1.6 million at the time of the Treaty of Trianon and now barely exceeds one million, lives today, and what the next fifty years might bring for them from a demographic perspective. The event will be moderated by Pál Péter Tóth, demographer, Doctor of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, and board member of the MKT Demographic Section.
