Is every innovation truly necessary?

Is every innovation truly necessary? Under this title, the Innovation Section of the Hungarian Economic Association (HEA) is organizing a professional conference on the social usefulness of innovation on Wednesday, April 8, 2026, from 2:00 PM, in the HEA community space (ELTE Faculty of Law, Building B, 1053 Budapest, Kecskeméti St. 10–12, 4th floor, Room 403) and on the HEA YouTube channel.

Speakers at the event: Magdolna Csath, university professor and Vice President of the HEA Innovation Section (Should we always welcome innovation? Introductory thoughts); Csaba Svéhlik, Europa Prize-winning automotive engineer and member of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences public body (The impact of failed innovations on individuals and society); Csaba Ilcsik, technical manager and CEO of WaterScope Zrt. (Do energy innovations go hand in hand with the expected efficiency improvements?); and Attila Simon, CEO of Herend Porcelain Manufactory Ltd., President of the Veszprém County Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and Vice President of the Hungarian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Problems of AI from a legal perspective).

In connection with the event, the HEA Innovation Section will hold its upcoming officer election. The link to the electronic ballot will be sent by email one week prior to the event to members of the section who are eligible to vote—i.e., those without outstanding membership fees.

In-person participation is free of charge, but due to the limited capacity of the venue, prior registration is required. Interested participants are kindly asked to indicate their intention to attend in advance by emailing mkt@mkt.hu.
