The Role of Government Amidst Global Challenges is the title of the essay by Gábor P. Kiss, Head of Department at the Central Bank of Hungary (MNB), Katalin Szőke, Senior Economic Analyst at the MNB, and Dóra Novák, Economic Analyst at the MNB, published in the March 2026 issue of Financial and Economic Review. In connection with this article, the Hungarian Economic Association (HEA) and Financial and Economic Review are organizing a panel discussion on Tuesday, April 21, 2026, from 2:00 PM at the MNB Theatre Conference Center (1054 Budapest, Szabadság tér 8–9.) and on the HEA’s YouTube channel.
At the beginning of the event, attendees will be welcomed by Barnabás Virág, Chief Advisor to the Governor of the MNB, Chairman of the Editorial Board of Financial and Economic Review, and Board Member of the Competitiveness Section of the HEA, and Ádám Banai, Executive Director of the MNB, Editor-in-Chief of Financial and Economic Review, and Co-Chair of the Monetary Policy Section of the HEA. This will be followed by a brief presentation by the authors summarizing the main conclusions of their paper. Participants in the panel discussion following the introductory presentation include Orsolya Nyeste, Macroeconomic Analyst at Erste Bank Hungary Zrt., Balázs Szepesi, Head of the School of Economics and the Entrepreneurship Research Workshop at Mathias Corvinus Collegium, and, representing the authors, Gábor P. Kiss. The panel discussion will be moderated by Péter Benő Banai, Deputy Governor of the MNB and Vice-Chair of the Public Finance Section of the HEA.
