Competitive Models in Hungarian Higher Education

Under the title “Competitive Institutional Models in Hungarian Higher Education,” Milton Friedman University, the Hungarian Rectors’ Conference, and the Higher Education and Continuing Education Section of the Hungarian Economic Association will organize a professional conference on Tuesday, April 21, 2026, starting at 9:30 a.m. The event will take place in the conference hall of Milton Friedman University (1039 Budapest, Kelta u. 2.), on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the university.

Hungarian higher education has undergone significant structural and governance transformations over the past decades. The coexistence of state, foundation-run, church, and private institutions has created a new institutional ecosystem in which competitiveness, autonomy, and quality have become issues of strategic importance. The aim of the conference is to provide a comprehensive examination of what competitiveness means in higher education today; how different governance models influence institutional operations; how to balance mass education and elite training; and in what direction the future of Hungarian higher education can be shaped.

The conference invitation and detailed program can be downloaded via this link (PDF).

Participation in the event is free of charge, but subject to prior registration. Registration is available at: https://forms.gle/VkMAhfZcdQBMnuZ36
