Labour Market in the Border Region – Summary

The Hungarian-Slovak border region’s labour market situation was the title of an online conference organised by the Labour Affairs Section of the Hungarian Economic Association (HEA) on 4 June 2026. At the event, Bence Varga, a PhD student at the Department of Regional Science of the Faculty of Science at Eötvös Loránd University, presented the main findings of his study published in issue 2026/1 of the journal Területi Statisztika (Regional Statistics).

The invited contributors were Katalin Lipták, Associate Professor and Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Economics at the University of Miskolc; István Balcsók, Assistant Professor at the Department of Sociology and Social Policy of the University of Debrecen; and Mátyás Jaschitz, Director of the Central European Service for Cross-Border Initiatives (CESCI).

The discussion was moderated by Márton Czirfusz, co-founder of the Periphery Policy and Research Centre and a member of the HEA Labour Affairs Section’s board, who also prepared a professional summary of the event.
